Upton, located just 35 miles from Boston, is unique in that it is comprised of out-lying areas of four different towns: Hopkinton, Mendon, Sutton and Uxbridge. Founded in 1735, this small community began as family farm county with subsidized income from small cottage shops producing hats, shoes and candles. In the late 1830´s William Knowlton established a flourishing hat-making industry which later converted into a boot-making manufacturing company that employed many of Upton´s and surrounding area residents until the late 1960´s. The Knowlton Factory building still exists as an apartment house and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Upton´s residents enjoy the benefits of the small-town atmosphere combined with the close proximity to major metropolitan areas. The original New England traditions are maintained in this primarily residential community. Upton Real Estate provides an outstandingly scenic area, steeped in rich American history, in which to locate. Commuting is simplified by the proximity to major transportation routes, including the Boston-Winchester commuter rail.
The Upton home market offers a wide selection of beautiful single residence homes in this picturesque town including beautifully wooded areas. Unique construction details provide home buyers with many high-quality, award-winning designs from which to choose. Investment opportunities are also available in condominiums, retirement homes, adult-living communities, water-front properties and multi-family properties. Upton real estate and the surrounding area also offer vacation homes, farms and country properties.
Upton´s very active Historical Society works continuously to preserve their history and assists in documenting historic buildings of Upton, one of which is the Polly Dean Bradish House. This house was constructed in 1844 and was one of the stations on the Underground Railroad. As an abolitionist, Ms. Bradish reportedly transported over 500 slaves through her home.
